Possible food and drug interactions
Tenuate or Tenuate Dospan may interact with alcohol unfavorably. Do not drink alcohol while taking this medication.
If Tenuate or Tenuate Dospan is taken with certain other drugs, the effect
s of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. It is especially important that you consult your doctor before combining Tenuate with the following:
- Blood pressure medications such
as Ismelin
- Insulin
- Phenothiazine drugs such as the major tranquilizer Thorazine

Special warnings about this medication
Tenuate may cause dryness of the mouth. For temporary relief, use sugarless candy or gum, melt bits of ice in your mouth, or use a saliva substitute. However, if your mouth continues to feel dry for m
ore than 2 weeks, check with your medical doctor or dentist. Continuing dryness of the mouth may increase the chance of developing dental disease, including tooth decay, gum disease, and fungus infect
ions.

Proper Use of This Medicine
Take this medication exactly as prescribed. Tenuate may be habit-forming and can be addicting.
If you are taking Tenuate Dospan (the controlled release formulation), do not crush or chew the
tablets. Swallow the medication whole.

Overdosage
Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek emergency medical treatment immediately.
Symptoms of Tenuate overdose may include:
- Abdom
inal cramps, assaultiveness, confusion, depression, diarrhea, elevated blood pressure, fatigue, hallucinations, irregular heartbeat, lowered blood pressure, nausea, overreactive reflexes, panic state,
rapid breathing, restlessness, tremors, vomiting

teriness, menstrual upset, muscle pain, nausea, nervousness, overstimulation, painful urination, palpitations, pupil dilation, rash, restlessness,

Other medical problems
Before taking Tenuate,
- tell your doctor if you are pregnant, plan to become pregnant, or are breast-feeding. If you become pregnant while taking Tenuate, call your doctor.
- if you are
having surgery, including dental surgery, tell the doctor or dentist that you are taking Tenuate.
- you should know that this drug may make you drowsy. Do not drive a car or operate machinery un
til you know how this drug affects you.
- remember that alcohol can add to the drowsiness caused by this drug.
